Cyberathlete Professional League to standardize on Hitachi hard drives

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that it has signed on as a worldwide sponsor of the Cyberathlete Professional LeagueŽ (CPL), the world's largest professional PC gaming league. Hitachi will exhibit and support key CPL tournaments and events worldwide and will provide high-performance Deskstar hard drives for use in competitive tournament play.

"We are pleased to be standardizing on Hitachi hard drives because they are extremely well regarded among PC gamers," said Angel Munoz, founder and president of the CPL. "The use of Hitachi Deskstar drives will allow us to continue pushing the performance envelope in our tournament machines."

Hitachi also announced its role as award sponsor of the Extreme World Championships in July, by providing $100,000 in cash prizes to the winners of the official Half-Life Counter-Strike Tournament. This event will be held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas from July 28 through August 1, 2004.

"Hitachi Deskstar drives are already well-known among PC gamers as the performance leader," said Jose Antelo, general manager, 3.5-inch Consumer and Commercial HDDs, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.
