Even Celebrities Feel the Need To Tie The Knot On St. Valentine’s Day |
|
NewsreleaseDate:
2012-01-16
Valentine’s Day is a day for lovers, and the number of couples who decide to get married on this particular day each year is staggering. On no other day out of the 365 of the year do people think more about tying the knot and getting romantic than on February 14th.
Celebrities are not immuned to these feelings, either. Many have been smitten and the urge to get hitched on this day of romance has captured many. Rita Hayworth and James Hill got married on February 14, in 1958. It seems like ancient history, but it’s been going on way before that, and the trend has continued up to the present.
Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid got married in 1991, and the marriage lasted 10 years. Apparently, there are no guarantees that a marriage will work out just because it takes place on St. Valentine’s Day. Phil Bronstein, the San Francisco Chronicle journalist who discovered Imelda Marcos’ famous shoe collection, married Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct in 1998. Their married lasted only six Valentine's Day anniversaries! And singer Prince married dancer Mayte Garcia on Valentine’s Day in 1996, and their marriage was annulled just two years later.
Keri Russell, the star of TV’s “Felicity” married a contractor by the name of Shane Deary in 2007. And on the same day and year the front man of Iron Maiden, the heavy metal band, married a girlfriend he’d been courting for eight years. Two marriages took place for the same couple in 1999. Mandira Bedi, the Bollywood actress, and movie director Raj Kaushal had to marry twice in Delhi because of religious reasons. They needed to have both the Sikh and Hindu wedding rites.
And the celebrity who has been “present” for the most marriages has been Elvis Presley, or a reasonable facsimile of him. That’s because Las Vegas attracts lovers like a magnet on Valentine’s Day. It’s nearly impossible to book a room without a prior reservation, and the happy couples are lined up at little chapel alters all around Sin City. Yes, Valentine’s Day may be for lovers, but it might be wise to wait until a more convenient time to tie the knot.
