Mold refers to a kind of microscopic fungus, which manifests itself in the form of colonies on food, walls and other parts of the home. Mold spores are extremely common and present in the workplace as well as within the household. This is not harmful to humans but concentrated levels of mold spores can result in respiratory issues and allergic reactions in humans. Where They Are Found Typically, molds are largely found in warm, dark areas, which are filled with steam. Hence, biggest concentrations of mold are found within the kitchen and bathroom. If storage areas are cluttered or an area has bad ventilation or if the environment is humid, chances are mold growth in these areas will be much more concentrated. Plumbing spaces as well as basement areas are likely havens for mold formation. Allergy And Reactions Certain varieties of molds can produce what is known as mycotoxins, which cause serious health problems both in animals as well as humans. If the person or animal has been subject to high levels of such mycotoxins it can result in severe neurological problems and in extreme situations even death. Mold allergy is typically characterized by certain symptoms like itchiness in the eyes, persistent coughs, difficulty with breathing, migraines or severe headaches, feeling of tiredness, rashes, nasal blockages, sinus problems, constant sneezing etc. If there is too much exposure to the mold, it can cause mold growth in the buccal cavity, ultimately resulting in asphyxiation and death. Black Mold Black mold almost always needs supplies and so usually such mildew and mold grows on shower walls as well as ceilings. If you notice such mold spores growing over the lavatory walls or ceilings, this is because the mold is eating the material supplies. Another good way to find out if there is black mold is to check the smell in the area. If you find musty odors emanating, it is most likely because of the toxic waste excreted by the mold resulting in this smell. In fact, it is only when the toxic excrement manifests itself that people actually begin to notice mold effects. Continual Cleaning While there are handy cleaners and mold removal agents, which claim to do the job well, nothing works as well as ensuring preventive measures are met. For example, ensuring that stale food is not kept in the house or ensuring proper hygiene and sanitary conditions can go a long way to prevent mold formation inside the home. Keeping the home airy and well-lit with natural sunlight is a great way to prevent humidity buildup within the home. How to get rid of mold If you find mold within the house, there are a couple of things you can do to get rid of it. - Kill mold - Brush away the mildew and mold from the wall or surface - Wash the surface with a mix of hot water and soap - Rinse with a mixture of salt, lemon and hot water - Let the surface dry out in natural sunlight - Bleach the stain left behind by the mold - Let the surface dry in sunlight If you’re interested in how to get rid of mold for good, then click here. |
