Advanced Boxers Agree That Heavy Bag Gloves Are A Must Have

NewsreleaseDate: 2010-03-12

A workout with a heavy bag is an excellent way of building up your upper body strength, not only in the arms, but the shoulders, back, chest and abdomen. Boxing training is one of the best ways of reducing stress whilst building strength and endurance. The correct choice of bag is important for the body mass of the person using it, and for the type of workout required; be it for practicing technique or for building up the body. Heavy bags are not designed to be used for bare knuckle boxing, so when using a bag you will need to choose the right heavy bag gloves to use. Just as with the choice of heavy bag, attention should be paid to the type of gloves you use. Not all gloves are the same and to get the right workout regime started it is important to choose a pair which will suit your punching style and your body weight. They are designed to give extra support to the wrists, one of the most common sites for injury, as well as cushioning the knuckles and hands.

Beginners will find that the choice can be overwhelming, with so many brands, models weights and styles to choose from. Gloves are sold from lightweight 8 oz gloves up to heavyweight 20 oz gloves, with the heavier gloves requiring much greater strength to be used, and giving a much harder workout. They are much better suited to hard punching, and provide the extra cushioning and support that this requires. Lighter gloves are better suited to ring fighting, and a good choice for the beginner is a mid weight pair. Of course one of the most important considerations, especially when used in the home is how the gloves are fastened as Jim Smith from heavybaggloves.net is quick to point out. “Copying your favorite boxer and buying an expensive pair of lace up Everlast gloves is all well and good, but do think about how you will manage to tie up the second glove when you are practicing alone”. It is a valid point. Start your workout with unlaced gloves and your wrists will certainly get injured. Laced gloves are for the gymnasium and competition only, at home, use your common sense and get a pair with Velcro straps. Another key point for the home is to get a set of heavy bag gloves with a thumb strap; thumb injuries are very common.

It is simple tips such as these which are often overlooked which can lead to unnecessary expenditure and will ensure the maximum protection. It is one of the reasons why Jim set up his website in the first place. “Boxing training can easily go wrong in the home, and mostly this is down to poor technique and the incorrect use of equipment” says Jim. “What is obvious to many is not to others” he continues. His site covers useful tips such as this to help people get on the right track and continue with boxing rather than give up due to injury or due to not getting the full benefit from home equipment.

Sadly many people watch a fight on the TV and think that they know it all. Educational sites such as Jim’s offer the perfect way to get started and to develop a good training regime at home. Further developments planned include sections more geared towards women’s boxing in response to increasing popularity in the wake of the Milion Dollar Baby movie and higher profile female boxing.
